Scrapstore

Plymouth Play Association was set up to provide an infrastructure for play providers across the city. Over the years (25+) they have delivered in partnership with other like-minded organisations a wide range of opportunities including play sessions, PlayFair – a celebration of Play from across the City hosted in Plymouth Pavilions, Playday the annual national and international day of play, Play grants an opportunity for smaller play providers to apply for funding to help them deliver their valued services, hire of play resources, playwork training, and information support, and of course The Scrapstore.

The success of the Play Association has been its ability to respond to the needs of its community, more of this, less of that. 3 years ago the board of trustees and friends that sit in the background made the decision to become a Community Interest Company, celebrating the organisations status as a community business. This has been the turning point for the Scrapstore, being brave and getting behind its social enterprise banner has given the Scrapstore a new lease of life, it had always been a community business and possibly one of Plymouth’s first social interest companies, but had never shouted about it or told its story.

Now it does …. this is your Scrapstore, full of amazing volunteers just like you – the heart of creativity, saving loveliness from landfill, working in its geographical community, alongside its community of interest, helping others to participate in creative activities they may not have had the skills, courage or resources to try.

The Scrapstore believes strongly in the 5R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle, repair and refuse. It believes in sharing and networking, its strength lies in its ability to change, to listen and to talk, not necessarily in that order.

We hope you believe in what it does and will continue to support it, as it stays the same or changes! The Scrapstore is for anyone and everyone.
